HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Three home runs helped power the Monmouth University baseball team to an 18-10 win at Hofstra University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday.
The Hawks (27-20, 18-9 CAA) secured their sixth CAA series win of the season with the victory.
The Hawks got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
Colin Richter had an RBI double after the first run scored on a balk.
Monmouth manufactured a five run third and pushed its lead to 7-0.
Simmi Whitehill hit a two-run home run before
Aidan Bretschneider launched a three-run shot.
The Hawks pushed their lead to 8-0 before Hofstra (18-26, 12-15 CAA) erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Pride sent 14 men to the plate and took a 9-8 lead in the contest.
Monmouth responded in the top of the fifth. The Hawks sent nine men to the plate and scored four runs to retake the lead, 12-9.
RJ Mustaro had a two-run double and Richter added an RBI single to highlight the action.
Hofstra got a run back in the bottom of the sixth and made it a 12-10 game.
David Horvath came in and got a strikeout to leave the bases loaded and limit the damage.
Richter led off the seventh with a home run and pushed the Monmouth lead back to three, 13-10.
The Hawks scored three in the eighth as RBI singles from Mustaro and
Jimmy Bruno made it a 16-10 game.
Brendan Buecker had an RBI double and scored in the ninth as the Hawks claimed an 18-10 win.
Notes
- The 15 road wins for the Hawks are their most away from home since the 2019 team posted 16 road wins.
- Colin Richter's steal in the fourth gave him 15 for the season and the team a total of 100. It's the third time in program history that the Hawks have stolen 100 or more bases (2025, 2026, 2009).
- The Hawks hit three home runs in the game (Simmi Whitehill, Aidan Bretschneider, Colin Richter). Monmouth moves to 7-1 when it hits three or more home runs in a game.
- The six doubles hit by the Hawks are a season-high.
- Colin Richter went 4-for-4 in the game to lead the Hawks. His four hits are a career-high and are tied for the most by a Hawk this season.
- RJ Mustaro finished with a team-high four RBIs in the contest.
- The 4-5-6 batters (Brendan Buecker, Nick Lovarco and Jimmy Bruno) combined to go 7-for-14 with nine RBIs.
- Wyatt Hunt had two hits and now has a team-high 21 multi-hit games this season.
- Drew Yagodzinskie picked up his second win of the season with a scoreless inning of relief work. He struck out a team-high two batters.
