WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – In a back-and-forth battle, Northeastern University claimed a 13-10 win over the Monmouth University baseball team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday.

After a scoreless first, the Hawks got things rolling in the bottom of the second. Monmouth sent 10 men to the plate and scored six runs on three hits in the frame.
Simmi Whitehill had a two-run triple while
Wyatt Hunt contributed a two-run single to highlight the action. The Hawks did all their damage with two outs.

Northeastern scored one in the third and fourth in the fourth and cut the Monmouth lead to 6-5.

Hunt's fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth pushed the home team's advantage to 7-5.

Northeastern sent eight men to the plate in the top of the sixth and scored five runs and took a 10-7 lead.Â

The Hawks got two of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Hunt's second two-run single of the game made it a 10-9 contest.Â

Northeastern scored three times in the top of the seventh and extended its lead to 13-9.Â

Monmouth once again answered in the bottom half of the frame,
RJ Mustaro's RBI single scored
Jimmy Bruno and made it a 13-10 game.

Northeastern was able to keep the Hawks off the bases in the eighth and ninth and claimed the 13-10 win.

Notes
- Wyatt Hunt drove in a career-high five runs for the Hawks. It is tied for most RBIs in a game by a Hawk this season (Aidan Bretschneider-at Towson, Nick Lovarco-Towson).
- Hunt finished with a team-best three hits, including a home run. It was Hunt's team-leading 18th multi-hit game of the season.Â
- Colin Richter scored a pair of runs for the second straight game and eighth time this season.Â
- The Hawks stole two bases in the contest (Jimmy Bruno and RJ Mustaro). That gave them 98 steals on the season, which is just four shy of the school record for single-season steals (102-2025).
- Chris Walsh was hit by a pitch for the CAA leading 18th time this season.Â
- Ryan Mealy struck out five batters, including the 100th of his career. He is the third Hawk to reach 100 career strikeouts this season (Tommy Kent, Alec Couture).Â
- Mealy suffered the loss after going 5.1 and giving up nine runs on eight hits.
