Eighth Inning Rally Pushes Hawks Over Seton Hall

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Four runs in the bottom of the eighth allowed the Monmouth University baseball team to battle back and beat Seton Hall 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks got the scoring started as Nick Lovarco led off the second inning with a home run to left.

Seton Hall sent eight men to the plate in the fourth and took advantage of two Monmouth errors to score three runs. The visitors took a 3-1 advantage in the contest.

The Hawks got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth as Aidan Bretschneider's two-out single scored Jimmy Bruno and made it a 3-2 game.

The fifth through seven innings belonged to the pitchers as both sides worked around an occasional baserunner.

After Brendan Kenneally took care of the Pirates in the top of the eighth, the Hawks went to work in their half of the frame.

Lovarco tied the game at 3-3 as he launched a one-out home run to center field.

Bretschneider's RBI triple to center field gave the Hawks a 4-3 edge. Colin Richter and Will Fahey added RBI singles in the frame which pushed the Monmouth lead to 6-3.

Seton Hall scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but David Horvath was able to get the final three outs to secure the 6-5 lead.
