WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Four runs in the bottom of the eighth allowed the Monmouth University baseball team to battle back and beat Seton Hall 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks got the scoring started as
Nick Lovarco led off the second inning with a home run to left.Â

Seton Hall sent eight men to the plate in the fourth and took advantage of two Monmouth errors to score three runs. The visitors took a 3-1 advantage in the contest.Â

The Hawks got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth as
Aidan Bretschneider's two-out single scored
Jimmy Bruno and made it a 3-2 game.

The fifth through seven innings belonged to the pitchers as both sides worked around an occasional baserunner.

After
Brendan Kenneally took care of the Pirates in the top of the eighth, the Hawks went to work in their half of the frame.

Lovarco tied the game at 3-3 as he launched a one-out home run to center field.Â
Â
Bretschneider's RBI triple to center field gave the Hawks a 4-3 edge.
Colin Richter and
Will Fahey added RBI singles in the frame which pushed the Monmouth lead to 6-3.

Seton Hall scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but
David Horvath was able to get the final three outs to secure the 6-5 lead.Â

Notes
- Nick Lovarco led the Hawks with two home runs in the game and now has a team-best nine home runs on the year. It was Lovarco's second two home run game of the season (Stony Brook-3/20, Seton Hall-4/22).
- Lovarco now has the most home runs by a Hawk in a single-season since James Harmstead (18) and Alex Barker (10) in 2022.
- The Hawks stole five bases in the game and moved to 7-1 on the year when they record five or more steals.
- Will Fahey had three steals in the game which gives him 10 on the year. He is the fourth Hawk to steal at least 10 bases this season.Â
- Aidan Bretschneider's triple was the first of his career.Â
- Brendan Kenneally picked up his third win of the season in relief. He allowed two hits in two innings of work and struck out three.
- David Horvath secured his fifth save of the season after getting the Hawks through the ninth. Horvath is now tied for 15th for career saves at Monmouth. TheÂ
