BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Monmouth University baseball team hit three home runs to back six hitless innings from
Drew Yagodzinskie and claimed a 10-6 win at LIU on Tuesday afternoon.Â

Yagodzinskie registered five strikeouts through the first three innings to keep LIU off the base paths.Â

After
Chris Walsh led off the fourth with a walk,
Simmi Whitehill launched his fifth home run of the year, which gave Monmouth a 2-0 advantage.Â

Later in that same frame,
Jimmy Bruno had an RBI double that pushed the Monmouth lead to 3-0.
Â
LIU took advantage of a pair of Monmouth errors and got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth, 3-1.

The Hawks sent nine men to the plate in the fifth inning and used five hits to push their lead to 7-1.
Kevin Fedoruk hit a three-run home run in the frame while Whitehill added a sac fly.

Wyatt Hunt led off with the sixth with a home run and extended the Monmouth lead.Â

Yagodzinskie left the game in the seventh and LIU responded by scoring four times and cutting the lead to 8-5.Â

Another run for the Sharks made it an 8-6 game going to the ninth.

An RBI single from
Nick Lovarco and bases load walk to Fedoruk in the ninth pushed the Monmouth lead to 10-6.Â

LIU loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but
Kevin Opanel got the final out to secure the win.

- The Hawks moved to 9-1 on the year when they score 10 or more runs in a game.Â
- Monmouth got home runs from Simmi Whitehill, Kevin Fedoruk and Wyatt Hunt in the game. The Hawks move to 7-1 on the year when they hit three or more home runs in a game.
- Whitehill's home run in the fourth inning extended his reached base safely streak to 38 straight games. It is the longest by a CAA player this season and ranks among the top 10 nationally for active Division I players.
- Whitehill's home run also extended his current hit streak to 10 straight games. It's the third hit streak of 10 games or more by a Hawk this season.Â
- Whitehill finished with three RBIs and recorded his 10th multi-RBI game of the year.
- Chris Walsh stole his career-best 21 base of the season. It's the most steals by a Hawk since Harry Padden had 21 last spring.
- The top four spots in the Monmouth lineup combined to score eight runs in the game. Walsh led the way with three runs scored.Â
- Drew Yagodzinskie picked up his first collegiate win on the mound. He tossed six innings, which matched his season-best, did not allow a hit with one unearned run. His six strikeouts matched his season-high.Â
