Hawks Suffer Series Loss to Towson

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth softball suffered a heartbreaking 4–2 loss to Towson in 10 innings Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series.

Sunday's matchup was a true pitcher's duel, with both starters going nearly the distance. Neither team was able to break through for the first six innings.

Towson finally opened the scoring in the top of the seventh with a single to center field that brought a runner home for a 1–0 lead.

Monmouth responded in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, the Hawks capitalized on a passed ball, allowing Liv Smith to score the game-tying run.

Deadlocked at 1–1, the game moved into extra innings. Towson regained control in the top of the 10th, scoring three runs. The Tigers took the lead on a single to center, added another run on a second RBI single, and pushed their advantage to 4–1 with an additional run later in the inning.

Monmouth attempted a late rally in the bottom of the 10th. Tessa Thompson grounded out to shortstop, bringing Bri Lawson home to cut the deficit to two, but the comeback fell short as the Hawks dropped the 4–2 decision.
