Monmouth Falls to Towson Saturday Afternoon

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Monmouth softball fell 11–4 to Towson in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon at MU Softball Park, snapping the Hawks' four-game win streak.

Towson came out strong, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning on four hits, highlighted by a home run.

The Hawks responded in the bottom of the first when Kylee McLain delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Dominique Lopez and put Monmouth on the board.

Both teams were held scoreless through the second, third, and fourth innings. Towson extended its lead in the top of the fifth, adding two unearned runs following Monmouth errors to make it 8–1.
Mackenzie Bloss answered with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring McLain and cutting the deficit to 8–2.

Monmouth later pulled within four runs, making it 8–4, after Bloss singled to right field to drive in Liv Smith and Gianna Stern. However, the rally stalled there, as Towson added three more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 11–4 victory.

  • Dominique Lopez now has a hit in eight consecutive games
  • Liv Smith and Mackenzie Bloss tallied a team-high two hits
  • The Hawks recorded two sac flies on Saturday
  • Mackenzie Bloss finished with a team-high two RBIs. Bloss has recorded a team-high 14 RBIs and a team-high 25 hits this season
  • Carah Sumpter came in for relief for Izzy Bonacci, allowing just one earned run
