WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – An eight-run sixth inning sparked an 8-5 comeback win for the Monmouth University baseball team over Stony Brook University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday.

Stony Brook scored a run in the first and one in the third and took the early 2-0 advantage.

The Seawolves scored three runs with two outs in the top of the fifth and pushed their lead to 5-0.

The Hawks broke through in a big way in the sixth inning. Monmouth sent 13 men to the plate scored eight runs on six hits.Â

Nick Lovarco scored the first run of the frame for the Hawks on a balk. An two-run double from
Wyatt Hunt and RBI singles from
Simmi Whitehill and
Brendan Buecker tied the game at 5-5.

Lovarco ripped a two-run single that put the Hawks on top, 7-5. The Hawks capped the scoring as Lovarco scored on a wild pitch and made it 8-5.

Austin Beard had entered the game for the Hawks in the top of the sixth and shut down the Seawolves over the final four innings. Beard limited the Seawolves to just one walk and one base hit in that stretch and did not allow a base runner to reach second.Â

Behind Beard, the Hawks closed out an 8-5 win.

- It's the second time this season, the Hawks have overcome a deficit of five or more runs to win (trailed Hofstra 7-1 in a 19-9 win).
- Chris Walsh extended his hit streak to eight straight games with a single in the first.
- Simmi Whitehill extended his reached base safely streak to 19 straight games with a walk in the third inning.
- Nick Lovarco went 4-for-4 with a walk in the contest. That matched his career-high for hits as a Hawk (4 hits at Georgetown – 3/15).
- Wyatt Hunt's double was his team-leading eighth of the season. He ranks second in the CAA for doubles this season.Â
- Alec Couture and Austin Beard combined for nine strikeouts in the game. It was the fourth time this season the Hawks pitchers have recorded nine or more strikeouts in a game. Monmouth is 3-1 in those contests.
- Beard tossed a season-high four innings in relief and allowed just one hit to earn his first win of the season.Â
- Brendan Buecker's three hits were a season-high for the catcher.Â
- The top four batters in the top of the lineup all had at least one hit and one run scored for the Hawks.
- The Hawks have won each of their first three CAA series of the season. The 7-1 start in CAA play is the Hawks' best start in conference  play since joining the CAA.
