WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University baseball team hit four home runs en route to a 10-2 win over Stony Brook University on Friday afternoon in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action.

The Hawks improved to 6-1 in CAA play after posting their eighth win in the last 10 games.

Monmouth got on the board in the first as
Brendan Buecker dropped a single into right field that scored
Wyatt Hunt for the 1-0 lead.

Simmi Whitehill pushed the Monmouth lead to 3-0 in the third as his single scored two.
Â
Nick Lovarco homered leading off the fourth inning and extended the Monmouth advantage.Â

The Hawks weren't done in the fourth as
Chris Walsh's two-out double plated three runs and extended the Monmouth lead to 7-0.Â

Lovarco's second home run of the day in the fifth pushed the Monmouth advantage to 8-0.

Stony Brook scored two in the sixth and made it an 8-2 game.

The Hawks used solo home runs from
RJ Mustaro and
Jimmy Bruno to close out the 10-2 win.

- Nick Lovarco's two home run game was the first of his Monmouth career. He previously had hit two home runs in a game twice at Brookdale Community College.

- Kevin Opanel picked up his second save of the season after going the final 3.1 innings and allowing just one hit.Â
