Hawks Hit Four Home Runs in Win Over Stony Brook

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University baseball team hit four home runs en route to a 10-2 win over Stony Brook University on Friday afternoon in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action.
 
The Hawks improved to 6-1 in CAA play after posting their eighth win in the last 10 games.
 
Monmouth got on the board in the first as Brendan Buecker dropped a single into right field that scored Wyatt Hunt for the 1-0 lead.
 
Simmi Whitehill pushed the Monmouth lead to 3-0 in the third as his single scored two.
 
Nick Lovarco homered leading off the fourth inning and extended the Monmouth advantage. 
 
The Hawks weren't done in the fourth as Chris Walsh's two-out double plated three runs and extended the Monmouth lead to 7-0. 
 
Lovarco's second home run of the day in the fifth pushed the Monmouth advantage to 8-0.
 
Stony Brook scored two in the sixth and made it an 8-2 game.
 
The Hawks used solo home runs from RJ Mustaro and Jimmy Bruno to close out the 10-2 win.
 
Notes
  • Monmouth moved to 6-0 on the season when it scores 10 or more runs in a game.
  • The four home runs hit by the Hawks are the second most in a game this season (5-at FDU).
  • Nick Lovarco's two home run game was the first of his Monmouth career. He previously had hit two home runs in a game twice at Brookdale Community College.
  • RJ Mustaro's home run was his team leading fourth of the year.
  • Jimmy Bruno's home run was his first as a Hawk. 
  • Simmi Whitehill has reached base safely in all 18 games after his third inning single.
  • Chris Walsh extended his hit streak to seven straight games with his bases clearing double in the fourth.
  • Eight of the nine Hawks in the starting line-up recorded at least one hit. 
  • Ryan Mealy who picked up his second win of the season went a season-long 5.2 innings. 
  • Mealy's seven strikeouts were a season-best and are the second-best performance of his career. 
  • Kevin Opanel picked up his second save of the season after going the final 3.1 innings and allowing just one hit.
