Lopez Hits Two-Run Home Run in 5-4 Win Over UAlbany, Second Game Canceled

MADERIA BEACH, Fla. - Monmouth softball rolled to a 5–4 Game One victory over UAlbany at the Make It Happen Games Friday morning, as Dominuque Lopez clinched the win for the Hawks with a walk-off home run. Despite the Hawks leading 4-2 in game two, the game was canceled due to inclement weather.

GAME 1:Monmouth 5, UAlbany 4
Freshman Dominuque Lopez played hero in game one on Saturday, delivering her first career walk-off with a two-run home run to lift Monmouth past UAlbany 5-4.

The Great Danes struck first, plating runs in the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. Monmouth answered in the bottom of the fifth when Gianna Stern launched a home run to left, scoring Bri Lawson to tie the game at two.

UAlbany regained the advantage in the top of the eighth, going up 4-3, but Lopez sparked another response in the bottom half. She crossed the plate on an error to even the score and force a ninth inning.

After the Great Danes pushed across a run in the top of the ninth, Lopez delivered once more. With Jayla Cadena on base, the freshman crushed a two-run shot over the left-field wall for her first-career walk-off, sealing the 5-4 victory.

Carah Sumpter went the distance in the circle for the Hawks, tossing all nine innings while striking out four and issuing no walks.
