WEST LONG  BRANCH, NJ.  —Monmouth Hawks women's basketball battled until the final horn, but came up short in a 68-60 loss to Stony Brook Friday night at OceanFirst Bank Center.

The Hawks (15-8, 8-4 CAA) erased an early deficit and took multiple second-half leads, but Stony Brook used a strong fourth quarter to secure the road win.

Monmouth fell behind 17-11 after one. The Hawks responded in the second quarter behind aggressive play in the paint and second-chance opportunities. Ella Farrelly knocked down a key three, and Gigi Gamble converted from deep to help spark a 9-0 run. Farrelly's fast-break finish in the final seconds gave Monmouth momentum, though Stony Brook answered with a late three to take a 32-30 lead into halftime.

The Hawks controlled much of the third quarter. Divine Dibula powered inside for multiple finishes, including an and-one opportunity that pushed Monmouth in front. Kathy Kersaint added a strong drive to the rim as the teams traded buckets in a tightly contested frame. Monmouth outscored Stony Brook 21-16 in the quarter to carry a 51-48 edge into the final period.

Stony Brook responded in the fourth, shooting 50 percent in the frame while holding Monmouth to nine points. Janay Brantley and Sandra Frau-Garcia combined for timely baskets down the stretch to regain control.
