Monmouth Women’s Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw Against Drexel

The Hawks recorded their seventh shutout of the season

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth women's soccer team turned in another dominant defensive performance and controlled the game offensively, but the Hawks were unable to find a breakthrough in a 0-0 draw against Drexel on Sunday afternoon at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

The result moved Monmouth to 6-2-4 overall and 1-1-2 in CAA play. The Hawks outshot Drexel, 14-5, held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal and earned six corner kicks compared to two for the Dragons. Monmouth also controlled 65 percent of the possession.

"Credit to Drexel today as they were organized and determined defensively making it very hard for us to find success in our final third," said Head Coach Kylee Flynn. "We needed to make better decisions going forward and take more responsibility in the and around the box to put the ball in the back of the net."

The clean sheet continued an impressive defensive season for Monmouth, marking the seventh team shutout of the season. Tallulah Miller has been in goal for six of those seven clean sheets, with Alex Scott earning the other last Sunday against Charleston. They are now the first Monmouth squad since 2023 with at least seven shutouts in the team's first 12 games.

Monmouth created a pair of early chances to take the lead. Maddie DeMaio put an attempt on frame in the fourth minute before Ashley Lavrich tested Drexel goalkeeper Gracie Sullivan less than two minutes later. Sullivan stopped both opportunities to keep the match scoreless.

The Hawks continued to generate the better opportunities throughout the opening half. Grace Notarfrancesco forced Sullivan into another save in the 26th minute, while Loren Gehret and Evangeline Perdomo followed with attempts. Daniella Butash produced another quality chance in the 39th minute, but Sullivan made her fourth stop of the half.

Despite finishing the opening 45 minutes with a 7-2 advantage in shots and putting four attempts on target, Monmouth entered halftime locked in a scoreless tie. Drexel did not place a first-half shot on goal.

The Hawks resumed their pressure after the break. Chloe Messer forced Sullivan into a save six minutes into the second half, and Monmouth earned three corner kicks over the next 13 minutes while continuing to spend time in the attacking third. Brooke De Almeida put another attempt on frame in the 66th minute, but Sullivan again kept the Hawks off the scoreboard.

Drexel produced its lone shot on goal with 30 minutes to play when Ava Kiwak tested Miller, who made the save to preserve the clean sheet. It proved to be the only stop Miller needed across the full 90 minutes as Monmouth's defense limited the Dragons to five total attempts.

Monmouth continued searching for a late winner, with DeMaio sending an attempt high in the 86th minute and the Hawks earning their sixth corner in the final two minutes, but Drexel held on for the scoreless draw.

Sullivan finished with six saves for Drexel, while Miller recorded one. The shutout was Miller's sixth of the season, surpassing the five clean sheets she recorded for Monmouth in 2025.

The Hawks will play the middle game of a three-match homestand on Thursday when it welcomes Campbell to Hesse Field on the Great Lawn. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
