WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Three different Hawks found the back of the net and the Monmouth women's soccer recorded another clean sheet as the Hawks rolled to a 3-0 victory over Campbell on Thursday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.
Charlee Perna scored the first goal of her collegiate career just over two minutes into the contest, Emily De Almeida added her first goal of the season and Evangeline Perdomo capped the scoring with her second of the year. Monmouth improved to 7-2-4 overall and 2-1-2 in CAA play with the victory.
The shutout was Monmouth's third in a row, marking the second separate stretch of at least three consecutive clean sheets this season. The Hawks have accomplished that feat twice in the same year for the first time since 2022, when they opened the season with three straight shutouts before posting four consecutive clean sheets from Sept. 11-22.
"We wanted to optimize our attack and get numbers forward today, and it worked," said Head Coach Kylee Flynn. "I just think that all the way up and down the roster from the goalkeeper to the forwards to the staff to the bench we were all locked in. This is a hard league and we need to get results."
Monmouth wasted little time establishing control against Campbell. Maddie DeMaio forced goalkeeper Anais van Doesburg into a save just 1:37 into the match, generating the first corner kick of the match. Chloe Messer put a header off the woodwork and Perna buried the rebound at 2:03 to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage. It was the first goal of Perna's collegiate career and the earliest Monmouth has scored in a conference match since the 2018 season.
The Hawks continued to pressure the Campbell defense throughout the opening half. Perdomo forced a save in the ninth minute, while Ashley Lavrich generated back-to-back opportunities shortly afterward.
Monmouth doubled its advantage in the 21st minute. Saar van der Boom and Lavrich combined to set up De Almeida, who headed home her first goal of the season and pushed the Hawks' lead to 2-0.
Monmouth finished the opening 45 minutes with a 12-3 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on goal. Perdomo and van der Boom each forced additional saves before halftime, while DeMaio tested van Doesburg again in the 43rd minute. The Hawks did not allow a shot on target in the opening period.
The Hawks added their third goal less than nine minutes after the break. De Almeida turned from scorer to facilitator, setting up Perdomo, who buried a shot into the lower corner in the 54th minute for a 3-0 Monmouth advantage. The strike was Perdomo's second goal of the season and gave De Almeida a three-point night with a goal and an assist.
Campbell generated more pressure in the second half, but Tallulah Miller preserved the clean sheet with back to back saves in the 63rd and 68th minutes before adding another in the 75th. She finished with three saves to earn her seventh individual shutout of the season.
"We didn't have any goals in the last game so we knew we needed to put some in the back of the net, said De Almeida. "We just worked in training this week on getting the ball forward and towards the net, and that's what we did today."
Monmouth finished with a commanding 22-9 advantage in shots, including a 13-3 edge in attempts on goal, and earned five corner kicks to Campbell's one. Van Doesburg made 10 saves for the Camels.
Lavrich led the Hawks with six shots and added an assist, while Perdomo put all three of her attempts on goal. De Almeida finished with a goal and an assist, Messer and van der Boom each contributed assists and Perna supplied the eventual game winner.
The victory gave Monmouth its eighth team shutout of the season and extended its current scoreless streak to three consecutive matches following clean sheets against Charleston and Drexel.
The Hawks, who have earned points in four straight contests, will look to continue its momentum on Sunday when it hosts Elon on Senior Day. The festivities are scheduled to begin around 12:45 p.m. with kickoff coming shortly after 1 p.m.
