Monmouth Wins CAA Opener, Picks up Sixth Straight Win

ELON, N.C. – GiGi Gamble poured in a career-high 30 points as Monmouth women's basketball opened CAA play with a 77–62 road win over Elon on Friday night at the Schar Center.

Gamble was electric from start to finish, shooting 11-of-19 from the field and knocking down six three-pointers to fuel the Hawks' offense.

After a back-and-forth opening quarter that saw Elon take a slim 15–14 lead, Monmouth found its rhythm in the second. Gamble scored 10 points in the period, including a pair of triples, as the Hawks outscored the Phoenix 20–13 to take a 34–28 advantage into halftime.

Monmouth took control coming out of the break, leaning on Gamble's shooting and defensive pressure to stretch the lead. A 14–4 run midway through the third quarter, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Gamble pushed the Hawks ahead by double digits.

Monmouth won the third frame 24–18 to carry a 58–46 lead into the fourth quarter.

Elon made several pushes in the fourth, but each time Gamble answered. She finished 6-of-11 from beyond the arc and added three assists, two steals, and two rebounds while playing nearly 38 minutes. Her final three-pointer with under four minutes remaining capped a 10–0 Monmouth run that put the game out of reach.

Monmouth forced 17 Elon turnovers and converted them into 22 points, while also holding the Phoenix to 38.6 percent shooting. The Hawks led for more than 27 minutes and pushed their advantage to as many as 17 late in the fourth quarter.

With the win, Monmouth improves to 8–4 overall and 1–0 in CAA play, opening conference action with a statement performance led by Gamble's career night.
