WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth women's basketball turned in a dominant performance on both ends of the floor Sunday afternoon, rolling past Campbell, 72-31, at OceanFirst Bank Center. The Hawks' defensive effort was historic, as Monmouth allowed just 31 points, the second fewest-points surrendered in program history.Â
Gigi Gamble exploded for another dominant performance, tying her career-high 30 points, shooting 12-for-17 from the field and knocking down six three-pointers. Gamble sparked a first-half run that helped Monmouth build a commanding 39-16 advantage at the break.
Monmouth set the tone early and never looked back, holding Campbell scoreless for long stretches and limiting the Camels to 25.0 percent shooting from the field while forcing 13 turnovers
Campbell finished the game without a made three-pointer, going 0-for-7 from beyond the arc, as the Hawks controlled the paint and the glass from start to finish.
Divine Dibula added 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, anchoring the Hawks inside, while Alexis Andrews chipped in 12 points and dished out three assists. Monmouth shot 55.8 percent from the floor and finished 10-of-20 from three-point range, steadily extending the lead in each quarter.
The Hawks' defense was especially suffocating in the third quarter, when Campbell managed just five points as Monmouth stretched the margin to as many as 36. The Camels never found a rhythm, with the Hawks contesting every look and limiting second-chance opportunities.
