Fast Start Fuels Monmouth to 65-56 Win Over Northeastern

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Monmouth women's basketball continued its strong play on Wednesday morning, defeating Northeastern 65–56 at the OceanFirst Bank Center to improve to 13–5 overall and 6–1 in CAA action.

The Hawks controlled the game from the opening tip. Monmouth opened the contest on an 18–11 first-quarter run and never trailed after the opening minutes, holding a lead for 35:35. 

Monmouth extended its advantage in the second quarter, using an 18-point second frame to take a 36–20 lead into halftime. 

The Hawks capitalized on Northeastern turnovers and pushed the pace in transition, while holding the Huskies to just nine points in the period. 

Gigi Gamble finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from beyond the arc. Dibula contributed 13 points and five rebounds, and Kersaint added seven points in just under 20 minutes. Alexis Andrews also played a key role, finishing with seven points and a team-high six assists to help keep the offense flowing.

Northeastern responded in the third quarter, trimming the deficit with an 18–13 advantage in the period, but Monmouth maintained its composure and answered each run. The Hawks continued to attack the basket and control the glass, preventing the Huskies from closing the gap any further.

In the fourth quarter, Monmouth delivered timely baskets and key defensive stops to secure the victory.
