RICHMOND, Va. – After tallying three goals in two wins last week, Monmouth University men's soccer sophomore forward
Jasen Bottini was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week by league officials.
Â
Bottini was honored by the CAA for the first time this season and second time in his career (rookie of the week as a freshman). He is the second Monmouth player to be honored by the league this season (
Marcin Kluz – Aug. 25).
Â
Bottini's goal in the 83rd minute at Iona proved to be the game-winner. His first goal of the season came on a free kick from just outside the 18.
Â
Bottini followed that up with a two-goal performance in the road win at Drexel. Bottini's goals came in the second half and pushed the Hawks out to a 2-0 lead in an eventual 3-2 win. Bottini became just the second Hawk to record a brace this season. He had two goals on three shots.
Â
Bottini now has three goals and one assist in five games this season which matches his point total from a year ago.
Â
Bottini and the Hawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host Northeastern at 12 p.m.
