Hawks Battle for a Road Win at Drexel

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 3 (2-2-1, 1-0-1 CAA)
Drexel 2 (1-2-1, 1-1-0 CAA)

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Victor Andersson's goal in the 78th minute proved crucial as the Monmouth University men's soccer team battled for a 3-2 win at Drexel University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks picked up their second straight victory.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle as neither team was able to capitalize. Otto Moosbrugger stopped the only shot on goal he faced in the first 45 minutes.

The Hawks needed just 2:34 into the second half to break through on the scoreboard. Jasen Bottini got the ball on the far side, moved around a pair of defenders and ripped a high shot into the corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks and Dragons continued to battle as Moosbrugger had three big stops and another ball was cleared off the line by the Monmouth defense.

Monmouth went on the attack and played the ball down the near sideline in the 67th minute. Jakob Friedman played a ball to the middle of the box to Javi Losa. Losa quickly changed feet and played the ball to the far side of the box where Bottini scored for the 2-0 advantage.

The Hawks pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 78th minute as Friedman crossed one into Andersson in the middle of the box. Andersson was able to control the ball in traffic and scored.

Drexel scored twice in a just over two-minute span and pulled to within one.

Moosbrugger made a big stop in the final minute of the match as the Hawks held on for the win.
