Monmouth Soars to 5-2 Win Over Temple

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 5 (3-0)
Temple 2 (2-1)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth field hockey stayed unbeaten with a 5-2 victory over Temple Friday afternoon at So Sweet a Cat Field. The Hawks improve to 3-0 on the year behind a balanced offensive effort and a career day from junior Lauren Relik.

Captain Claire Campen  opened the scoring just nine minutes in, cleaning up a rebound off a penalty-corner shot. She then helped set up the Hawks' second tally, driving down the right side and sending a ball that deflected off a Temple defender before Alicia Vanderlyde buried it in the 17th minute.

Relik made it 3-0 six minutes later when Keely Bowers  found her open inside the circle. The junior went on to finish with a career-high four points.

Anna Moors weaved through the defense and fired home her fifth goal of the season to stretch the lead to 4-0 in the 41st minute.

Temple mounted a brief comeback with goals in the 50th and 55th minutes, but Relik struck again in the final minute to put the game away.
