Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Monmouth Falls to UNCW, 1-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth women's soccer team dropped a defensive affair to UNCW, 1-0, on Sunday at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

The Seahawks found the back of the net late in the first half and were able to keep the Hawks off the board, earning their second CAA victory of the season. Monmouth falls to 0-2 in conference play with the loss.

Tallulah Miller turned away an early Seahawks shot with a diving save in the sixth minute. On the other end, Summer Reimet had a clean look on net from inside the box but was stonewalled by UNCW goalkeeper Morgan Hobbes. In the 15th minute, Reimet forced another Hobbes save with a turnaround shot from the penalty dot.

After 20 minutes of limited chances, the Seahawks broke through, scoring the game's first goal on a shot into the upper-left corner, leaving Miller no chance. The visitors played strong defense for the remaining 10 minutes of the opening frame, taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Seahawks threatened for their second goal early in the second frame, but a pair of Miller saves kept the Hawks within a score. Reimet put her third shot on goal in off a Cadi Hoke free kick, but was once again denied by Hobbes.

In the 62nd minute, Lindsey Husic sent a cross in the direction of Loren Gehret, who put a strong header on goal, but another save kept Monmouth off the board. The Hawks maintained pressure for the final 30 minutes, getting another shot on net in the 82nd minute from Clara Ford, but the UNCW defense was able to stand strong and hold on for the victory.

Head Coach Kylee Flynn Postgame:

"Proud of the fight in our team today from start to finish. Unfortunately, in our sport, you don't always get the result you were looking for. We will continue to fight the good fight with hard work and togetherness, never swaying from our integrity on which this program was and always will be built."
