Hawks Fall in Road Contest at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT. – Fairfield University scored a pair of first half goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Monday evening. 
 
Jason King had a pair of early saves in the first five minutes of the contest which kept Fairfield off the board. 
 
Fairfield broke through in the 18th minute as Sean Albritton rifled home a high shot from outside the box. 
 
The Hawks continued to apply pressure as Jakob Friedman, Jessy Bichler and Patrick Osiecki all put shots on goal that were turned away by Fairfield's Evan Chomow. 
 
The Stags added to their lead with 16 seconds to play in the period as Alex Vaz's goal made it a 2-0 advantage for the Stags.
 
A goal from William Pierce in the 55th minute pushed the Fairfield advantage to 3-0.
 
The Hawks continued to apply the pressure but were unable to convert as Fairfield claimed the 3-0 win. 

NOTES 
- It was the 16th meeting all-time between the two schools who used to be opponents in the MAAC. Monmouth leads the all-time series 7-5-4 despite having its two-match win streak snapped.
- Freshmen Jason King and Marcin Kluz each earned their first career starts for the Hawks. 
- Freshman Marco Pantano made his first collegiate appearance in the second half. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth finished the match with a 17-10 advantage in the shots taken. The Hawks put seven shots on goal to the Stags' six.
- Monmouth took five of the match's eight corner kicks. 
- Jakob Friedman led the Hawks with four shots and put two on goal.
- Fairfield's Evan Chomow made seven saves to earn the win in goal.
- Jason King finished with three saves for the Hawks.

UP NEXT
-Monmouth returns home to host Stony Brook on Saturday, Aug. 30. That marks the start of Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play for the Hawks. Opening touch is set for 7 p.m. on Hesse Field at the Great Lawn.
