Victor Andersson scored a goal in each half as the Monmouth University men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie versus Stony Brook in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opener for both squads.

The Hawks applied the pressure from the opening whistle and had three corner kicks and two shots on goal in the match's first 18 minutes.

Monmouth broke through in the 19th minute.
Cam Lawrence brought a ball up the far sideline and played it ahead to
Patrick Osiecki. Osiecki threaded a pass into the center of the box where Andersson banged it home for the 1-0 lead.Â

Stony Brook evened the match at 1-1 on Jamie Orson's goal at 26:37.

Both goalies made solid saves in the final 15 minutes to send the contest into the half tied up.

After a save from Monmouth's
Otto Moosbrugger in the 55th minute, the Hawks found the back of the net again. Andersson notched his second of the day, this time off an assist from
Jasen Bottini, at 56:22.Â

Stony Brook pulled even with a goal at 66:20.Â

The Hawks continued to apply the pressure, outshooting the Seawolves 9-2 over the final 20 plus minutes of the contest. However, neither team was able to convert, and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.

- It was the fifth meeting all-time between the Hawks and Seawolves. Monmouth leads the series 2-0-3. It was the second straight year the two squads have battled to a 2-2 tie.

Victor Andersson's brace was his first of his career. He is the first Hawk to score two goals in a game since
Erik Reis did so last year against Stony Brook.
