Final Score
Monmouth 3 (1-2-0)
Bucknell 2 (0-3-0)
LEWISBURG, PA. – Ashley Lavrich's game-winning goal with 22 seconds remaining gave Monmouth a 3-2 victory over Bucknell on Thursday night, earning the Hawks their first win of 2025.
Bucknell (0-3-0) rallied from down 2-1 to tie the game in the final minutes, but Lavrich provided the late-game drama, ensuring Monmouth (1-2-0) left Emmitt Field in Lewisburg, Pa., with the result.
The Hawks pressed on the offensive end for a large portion of the opening 45 minutes, generating eight shots in the first half, five of which were on net.
Evangeline Perdomo and
Summer Reimet each tested Bucknell keeper Jess Benattar with attempts in the first twenty minutes, before rookie
Marie Bouge put a shot on target in the 29
th minute.
A minute later, Bouge's corner kick found Reimet's head, and the preseason CAA Player of the Year put the Hawks up 1-0 with her first score of the young season. Bouge earned her first collegiate assist on the score as well. Strong defense and a save from
Tallulah Miller late kept Monmouth in front at the end of the first period.
The Bison drew first blood in the second half, netting the equalizer in the 53
rd minute, but Monmouth went back ahead seven minutes later when Bogue redirected
Clara Ford's cross past Benattar, putting Monmouth back in front. Bucknell hit the woodwork twice over the next 23 minutes but could not draw even until finally breaking through in the 88
th minute.
In the final seconds, Lavrich took a pass from Reimet and let a shot fly from the right side of the field, near the midfield line, that sailed over Benattar's head to give Monmouth the dramatic victory.
Head Coach Kylee Flynn Postgame:
"Tonight was a battle of two young, mid-majors whose players fought for their schools and programs until the very end. I have a ton of respect for (Bucknell Head Coach) Kelly Cook and the way she runs her program. Although we found a way to win tonight, all the student-athletes on both teams should be proud of the effort they put forth tonight. We will continue to use these preseason games to grow as a group and learn from all our successes and failures to be ready for conference play in a couple weeks."
