WEST ORANGE, N.J. – The Monmouth women's soccer team took a 1-0 halftime lead, but Seton Hall scored three times in the second half to take the season opener, 3-1, on Thursday night in West Orange, N.J.

The Hawks maintained pressure early in the first half, culminating in a shot from
Summer Reimet that was tipped just over the crossbar by Pirates' keeper Avery Strohecker in the 11
th minute. On the ensuing corner kick
, Ashley Lavrich's header was cleared off the goal line, keeping the game scoreless through the opening 20 minutes.

In the 36
th minute,
Emily De Almeida buried the Hawks' first goal of 2025, giving Monmouth the 1-0 lead it would take into the halftime locker room. The defense was sharp over the opening 45 minutes, holding Seton Hall to just three off-target shots in the half.

The Pirates responded early in the second half, netting the equalizer in the 52
nd minute and taking a 2-1 lead six minutes later. Seton Hall doubled its advantage with just under 20 minutes to play, going up 3-1. The Hawks possessed the ball for the majority of the final stretch, putting four shots on net, but were unable to break through the Pirates' defense.

Monmouth will play at home for the first time this season when it hosts Pitt on Sunday in West Long Branch. Kickoff on Alumni Day at Hesse Field is set for 1 p.m.
