WILMINGTON, NC – UNCW took both games of a doubleheader against the Monmouth University baseball team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday.
 
UNCW used a big sixth and seventh inning to claim a 9-4 win in game one. The Seahawks got three RBIs from Bryan Arendt in game two en route to an 11-1 win in eight innings.
 
Game One Recap:
UNCW used a pair of solo home runs in the first inning to take an early lead in game one. 
 
The Hawks tied things up at 2-2 in the third. Casey Caufield's RBI groundout scored Shane Dux before Jay Bant's single plated Caufield.
 
UNCW answered with three in the bottom of the sixth and took a 5-2 lead. 
 
Monmouth got one back in the top of the seventh as Wyatt Hunt lifted a home run to right field. 
 
UNCW sent eight men to the plate and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and took a 9-3 lead. 
 
Bant had an RBI single in the top of the eighth and made it a 9-4 game but that was all UNCW would allow as the Seahawks closed out the win.
 
Game Two Recap: 
The Seahawks scored two in the bottom of the first for the early advantage. 
 
Monmouth answered with a run in the top of the second as Hunt's groundout scored Chris Andrews and made it a 2-1 game. 
 
UNCW put up three runs in the fourth and increased its advantage to 5-1. 
 
The Seahawks tacked on six more runs over the next four innings and claimed the 11-1 win.

NOTES 
- The Hawks fell to 2-6 all-time against UNCW with the doubleheader sweep by the Seahawks. 
- Monmouth was playing its fifth doubleheader of the season. The Hawks are 4-6 in doubleheaders this season. 
- Chris Andrews had a base hit in game two and now needs just two more hits to reach 100 for his career.
- Casey Caufield had a base hit in game two and now needs nine more hits to reach 200 for his career.
- The Hawks stole a pair of bases in game one and improved their total to 96 on the season. The Hawks are just four steals away from tying the school record for steals in a season (100-2009).

NUMBERS CRUNCH
Game One Numbers:
- Jay Bant's led the Hawks with a pair of base hits in game one. It was Bant's 16th multi-hit game of the season. 
- Bant's two RBIs in game one gave him a team-best 50 RBIs on the season. Bant is the first Hawk to have 50 RBIs in a season since Shaine Hughes in 2018. 
- Wyatt Hunt's home run was his second of the season. 
- Connor Marshburn earned the win for UNCW after giving up two runs on four hits in six innings of work. 
- Jimmy Wigo took the loss in relief as he surrendered three runs on two hits in 0.1 innings of action. 
 
Game Two Numbers:
- Jay Bant walked in game two and has now reached base safely in 13 straight games. 
- Cam Bagwell earned the win for UNCW as he gave up one run on four hits in seven innings of work.
- Ryan Mealy suffered his first loss of the season as he gave up five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.
