West Long Branch, NJ - Two Monmouth track & field seniors captured weekly awards from the Coastal Athletic Association for their exploits at George Mason's Dalton Ebanks Invitational.
Hurdler Yasmeen Tinsley earned CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors while Decathlete David Strong won the CAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week award.Â
Monmouth's record holder took the CAA lead in her signature event. Tinsley won the 400 hurdles in 57.40s at George Mason, moving up into the No. 10 spot on the NCAA DI East Region performance list. Tinsley also won the 100 hurdles in 13.65s — the No. 2 time in the CAA and No. 43 in the NCAA East Region.
Fresh off winning the CAA Indoor Field Athlete of the Year award last week, Strong promptly took the conference lead in the men's long jump while competing outdoors at George Mason. The senior leapt 7.59m to win the event, topping fellow Hawk Ahmad Brock by 10 centimeters. Strong ranks No. 15 overall in the East Region.
Although they were not recognized by the CAA, two other Monmouth seniors impressed at the team's second outdoor meet this season.Â
Declan McDonnell registered an impressive men's distance double, ending the weekend as a CAA leader in the 5K while ranking second in the 1500m run. McDonnell ran the second-fastest 5K in Monmouth history, crossing the line in 14:13.04. He won the 1500m race in 3:48.01.
On the women's side, high jumper Veronica Chainov cleared 1.80m to move into second place on the conference leader board. The height ranks her at No. 4 overall in the East Region.
