JD Greeley allowed just two hits in the final four innings and helped the Monmouth University baseball team claim a 5-4 win over the College of Charleston in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday.

The Hawks earned their first ever victory over the Cougars with the win.Â

College of Charleston struck first with an RBI groundout from Landon Penfield in the top of the first.Â

The Hawks answered with two in the bottom of the first.

Chris Walsh's sac fly gave Monmouth a 2-1 lead.Â

The Hawks added to their lead in the second as
Harry Padden's RBI single scored
Brendan Buecker for a 3-1 edge.Â

A run in the top of the third pulled the Cougars to within one, 3-2.Â

College of Charleston scored two in the top of the fifth for a 4-3 advantage.Â

Monmouth answered in the bottom of the fifth. The Hawks loaded the bases before Walsh's sac fly tied the game. Bant scored the go ahead run on a fielders choice.Â

College of Charleston got a runner on to start the sixth but Mealy stranded him.Â

Greeley entered the game in the seventh and took care of business, allowing just two base runners in an inning once and turning a nifty double play in the ninth to secure the 5-4 win.

- Monmouth earned its first win in nine tries over the College of Charleston.Â

Casey Caufield was hit by a pitch and extended his reached base safely streak to 27 straight games.Â

Chris Andrews extended his reached base safely streak to 17 straight games while
Harry Padden reached base safely for the 12th straight game.   Â

Chris Walsh led the Hawks with two RBIs in the game, it was his fifth multi-RBI game of the season.Â

Harry Padden stole his team leading 17th base of the season. It is the most steals by a Hawk since JP Walsh had 22 in 2019.

Ryan Mealy went six innings, which matched the longest outing by a Hawk this season.Â
- Mealy picked up his third win of the season, which is tied for the team lead. He went six innings and allowed four runs, two of which were earned on seven hits.Â

JD Greeley picked up the save after going the final three innings and allowed just three hits.Â
- Aidan Hunter took the loss for Charleston after giving up five runs on five hits in four innings of work.  Â
