WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Softball showed early promise behind a pair of extra-base hits from
Izzy Bonacci and
Lexi Castaneda, but Campbell capitalized on a big fifth inning to come away with an 8-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at MU Softball Park.

The Hawks tallied six hits and drew five walks while keeping pace with the Camels through the early innings. Monmouth's offense came alive in the bottom of the third, responding to Campbell's opening run with two of their own.

Bonacci delivered a clutch RBI double to right-center to plate
Sammy Miller, who led off the frame with a walk. Castaneda followed with a sharply hit RBI single through the right side, scoring Bonacci and giving Monmouth a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore
Olivia Lewis made the start in the circle and pitched four innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out two.
Jayla Cadena entered in relief and kept the Hawks within reach, surrendering just two runs over three innings of work.
