STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Giana Scotti launched her third home run of the season and Monmouth plated three early runs, but host Stony Brook used a nine-run first inning to pull away in a 14-3 decision on Saturday afternoon at University Field.

Monmouth collected six hits in the contest, led by freshman Kylee McLain and junior Kaitlynn Place, who each recorded doubles and scored a run. Scotti's leadoff home run in the top of the first gave the Hawks a quick 1-0 advantage and set the tone for a promising start at the plate.

After falling behind following a big inning from the Seawolves, Monmouth bounced back in the second. McLain ripped a double to the gap before Place followed with an RBI double of her own. Gianna Stern then lined a single down the right field line to score Place, cutting the deficit to 9-3.

Scotti added a walk in the fourth and finished 1-for-2 with a run and RBI. Place reached base twice and collected her fourth RBI of the season, while McLain extended her hit total to a team-high 29 on the year.
