Seahawks Defeat Hawks on Sunday

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth put up a fight in the later innings but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 16-2 to UNCW in CAA action on Sunday at MU Softball Park.
 
The Hawks found some offensive momentum in the fourth inning, plating two runs behind the efforts of Gianna Stern and Izzy Bonacci. Stern drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, while Bonacci doubled home another to put Monmouth on the board. Kylee McLain and Giana Scotti each contributed to the Hawks' offense, reaching base and generating scoring opportunities. Sammy Miller also added a hit, as Monmouth recorded three hits in total.
 
In the circle, the duo of Jayla Cadena and Olivia Lewis threw for Monmouth, combining for three strikeouts against the UNCW lineup.
 
UNCW capitalized early, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second to set the tone. Madison Biddle had a standout performance for the Seahawks, driving in five runs, including a grand slam in the fourth.
