Chris Walsh had a career-high four RBIs, but it was not enough as the Monmouth University baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 13-12 loss in 10 innings to Hofstra University on Saturday afternoon.Â

Hofstra took the early advantage, 4-1 after the top of the second.Â

After scoring one in the bottom of the second, the Hawks used a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 4-4.
Shane Dux had an RBI groundout in the fourth before
Andrew Schmid dropped a perfectly placed bunt single that scored
Nick Lovarco with the tying run.

Hofstra scored four in the fifth and pushed its lead to 8-4.

Jay Bant scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and cut the Hofstra lead to three, 8-5.

Monmouth manufactured a big sixth inning as the Hawks sent 11 men to the play and scored six times to take an 11-8 advantage. Monmouth got RBI base knocks from
Harry Padden,
Casey Caufield and
Jay Bant. That loaded the bases for
Chris Walsh, who ripped a ball into the left to score all three runners.

Hofstra scored three times in the top of the eighth to knot the score at 11-11.

Hofstra loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but
Jake Danyluk got a pair of strikeouts to keep things tied up.Â

The Pride scored twice in the top of the 10th and took a 13-11 edge.Â

In the bottom of the 10th, Walsh had a sac fly that pulled the Hawks to within one, 13-12. However, the Pride got a strikeout to claim victory.

- It was the 19th meeting all-time between Monmouth and Hofstra. The Pride have a 10-9 edge as Hofstra has won four of the last five meetings.Â
