Monmouth Walks Off Hofstra in Extra Innings

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Chris Andrews scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 10th which lifted the Monmouth University baseball team to a wild 12-11 comeback win over Hofstra University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday.
 
Playing extra innings for the second straight day, the Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. 
 
The first five innings of the contest saw both teams go back and forth, as Monmouth grabbed a 4-3 edge. 
 
Hofstra sent 10 men to the plate in the top of the sixth and scored five runs for an 8-4 lead in the game. Tyler Cox had a two-run single for the Pride in the frame. 
 
Monmouth got one back in the bottom of the sixth and made it an 8-5 game.
 
Hofstra pushed its lead to 10-5 with a run in the seventh and one in the eighth.
 
A Harry Padden RBI single in the eighth pulled the Hawks to within four, 10-6.
 
After Stefan Swee left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, the Hawks went to work in the bottom of the ninth. With one on, Andrews launched a two-run home run down the left field line. Hofstra changed pitchers and after a Chris Walsh double, Nick Lovarco sent a ball over the fence in right center and tied the game at 10-10.
 
Sean Lane homered on the first pitch he saw in the top of the 10th which gave Hofstra the lead back. 
 
In the bottom of the 10th Andrews delivered a two-out single to left which scored Padden and tied the game at 11-11. Andrews scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch later in the frame.

NOTES 
- It was the 20th meeting all-time between Monmouth and Hofstra. The series is tied at 10-10 after Sunday's game.
- It was the first time the Hawks played back-to-back extra inning games since the 2019 MAAC Tournament.
- It was the Hawks' fourth comeback win in the last seven games (all three at Georgetown, Hofstra).
- Casey Caufield had a pair of walks and has now reached base safely in 19 straight games.
- Chris Andrews extended his hit streak to eight straight games, his longest of the season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Chris Andrews led the Hawks as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored. His four hits were a career high. 
- Nick Lovarco's home run was his second of the season. 
- Andrew Schmid had his team and CAA leading seventh sacrifice bunt of the season. 
- Andrews stole his 11th base of the season. He's tied with Harry Padden and Chris Walsh for the team lead in that category. 
- Jacob Ciccone picked up his first win with the Hawks. He got the final out of the 10th with a flyout. 
- Tyler Castrataro, who started the game at second base, took the loss after giving up two runs in 0.2 of work.
