Monmouth Falls in Series Finale at George Mason

FAIRFAX, VA. – George Mason University recorded 22 hits in a 16-2 win over the Monmouth University baseball team to close out the series on Sunday afternoon.
 
For the third time this weekend, the Hawks jumped on the Patriots in the top of the first. Harry Padden ripped a triple and came around to score on Casey Caufield's base knock. Monmouth added a second run as Caufield scored on a wild pitch. 
 
George Mason answered with three runs in the bottom half of that frame and took a lead it would not relinquish. 
 
The Patriots used a pair of four run innings to keep increasing their advantage and claimed the 16-2 win. 

NOTES 
- George Mason leads the all-time series 8-4 with Sunday's victory. 
- Freshman Tony Dichiara made his first collegiate appearance and had a single and a walk.
- Graduate student Jacob Ciccone made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen and threw 1.2 scoreless innings. 
- Harry Padden led off for the first time this season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Harry Padden had a pair of base hits. It is the fourth straight game the graduate student has recorded multiple hits in a game. 
- Padden's first hit was a triple, his first of the season and seventh of his career. He moved into a tie for 10th on the career triples list at Monmouth. 
- Casey Caufield scored in the first inning for the Hawks. It was the fourth straight game that he has scored at least one run. 
- Padden and Caufield each extended their current hit streaks to six straight games. 
- Brandon Cassedy earned the win on the mound for George Mason as he went 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits.   
- JD Greeley took the loss for the Hawks after giving up seven runs on seven hits in two innings of work.

NEXT UP
Monmouth plays its first midweek game when it travels to NJIT. That contest, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 has been moved up to Tuesday, March 4 at 3:30 p.m.
