CLINTON, S.C. – The Monmouth University Softball Team delivered its best offensive performance of the season on Sunday, rolling past UMES 9-2 to close out the Scotsman Invitational at the PC Softball Complex with a trio of victories.

The Hawks (3-11) showcased a balanced attack, scoring in five of their six offensive innings while racking up 11 hits and five stolen bases. Freshman Kylee McLain led the charge, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base. Liv Smith also shined at the plate, driving in three runs, including a two-run triple in the third inning.

Monmouth struck first in the opening frame when McLain led off with a single, stole second, and later came around to score on a groundout. The Hawks continued to apply pressure in the second, plating three runs on a combination of patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning. Giana Scotti drew a bases-loaded walk before Lexi Castaneda followed with an RBI single.

The offensive momentum carried into the third and fourth innings, with Monmouth tacking on two runs in each frame. McLain delivered a run-scoring double, and Smith's triple pushed the lead to 8-0. Gabby Gesualdo added an RBI single in the sixth to cap the Hawks' scoring.

In the circle, Izzy Bonacci was dominant, tossing five shutout innings before UMES managed two unearned runs in the fifth. Bonacci allowed just three hits and struck out three to earn her first win of the season. Olivia Lewis took over in relief and shut the door with two perfect innings, striking out three to seal the victory.
