Cadena Throws Complete-Game Shutout Against Presbyterian for 2-0 Win

Game 13 Final Score
Monmouth (2-11) – 2
Presbyterian (5-5) – 0

CLINTON, S.C. –
Behind a dominant performance from Jayla Cadena in the circle and a clutch sixth-inning rally, the Monmouth University Softball Team secured a 2-0 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks earned their second win of the weekend behind Cadena's masterful outing. The junior right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits while striking out two and walking just two batters. Cadena worked efficiently, stranding eight Presbyterian runners and keeping the Blue Hose off the scoreboard.

Monmouth's offense broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Cadena got things started with a two-out double down the third-base line, while Giana Scotti followed with her own two-bagger to left, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Sammy Miller added an insurance run with an infield single, bringing home Scotti for a 2-0 advantage.

Cadena helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Scotti, Miller, and Clare Picone each added key hits in the win. Defensively, the Hawks played a clean game, committing no errors and making several key plays to back their pitcher.
