WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Following an impressive two-game stretch, Monmouth freshman forward
Stefanos Spartalis has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Spartalis averaged 18.0 points per game for the week, highlighted by his standout performance in the Hawks' come-from-behind win over Robert Morris on Sunday.Â
During the week, he shot 40.7 percent from the field and was a perfect 14-for-14 from the free-throw line while adding 4.5 rebounds per game. Tuesday, he opened with an 18-point, five-rebound effort at Syracuse – finishing 6-for-14 from the floor in a narrow loss to the Orange.
The Chios, Greece, native followed with another 18-point performance in Monmouth's 71-70 overtime victory against Robert Morris. Spartalis delivered the go-ahead free throws with 8.6 seconds remaining in the extra period to cap the Hawks' comeback win.
