Rodney Nelson Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week

October 06, 2025

RICHMOND, Va. – Monmouth University Football running back Rodney Nelson was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week for Week 6, the conference announced Monday morning.

This marks the fourth time a Monmouth Hawk has won the weekly conference award, as Nelson joins Josh Derry (Week 4), Derek Robertson (Week 2) and his brother Gavin Nelson (Week 1) as CAA Offensive Player of the Week winners.

The redshirt sophomore put together a career day in Monmouth's 49-38 win over Delaware State on Saturday, notching 203 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. It marked the first time the Maryland native has surpassed the 200-yard mark in his career, as he became the ninth FCS player this season with a 200+ yard game on the ground. Nelson has eclipsed 100 yards on the ground in four out of five games in 2025 and leads FCS with 142.4 rushing yards per contest. He also added a 15-yard reception – contributing to his 167.2 all-purpose yards per game – a mark that ranks third in the nation and first in the CAA.

Nelson and the Hawks continue their hot start to the 2025 season with a road CAA matchup at Towson on Saturday, October 11. The game will be broadcast live on FloCollege at 2 p.m.
