WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – St. John's University used a goal midway through the second half to claim a 1-0 win over the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Tuesday night.

Jakob Friedman fired off a shot just shy of two and a half minutes into the contest that went high for the Hawks.

Herman Johnsen had a pair of big stops before the match reached the 30-minute mark and kept the contest scoreless.

The two teams continued to battle and went into the half knotted at 0-0.

St. John's broke through in the 65th minute as Guilherme Gomes knocked down an attempted clear by the Hawks and struck a low liner into the net for the 1-0 lead.

St. John's put a shot off the post in the 80th minute before Johnsen made back-to-back saves on close in shots and kept the Monmouth deficit at 1-0.

Javi Losa got off a late shot that sailed just wide and St. John's claimed the 1-0 win.
