Friedman Scores as Hawks Fall at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Jakob Friedman scored for a third straight game as the Monmouth University men's soccer team fell at Stony Brook University, 2-1 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday.
 
Stony Brook struck early in the contest with a goal from Alex Fleury in the 10th minute of the contest. 
 
Herman Johnsen made a couple of big saves to keep the Hawks' deficit at one.
 
Monmouth pulled even in the 34th minute as Friedman scored. The assists on the tally went to Javi Losa and Raul Garcia. 
 
Johnsen made one more save as the Hawks and Seawolves went into the break tied at 1-1.
 
Johnsen came up with a big stop in the 54th minute as he stopped a penalty kick chance by the Seawolves. 
 
Stony Brook went back on top in the 72nd minute on a Ryan Farr goal. 
 
Monmouth got off two of the final three shots in the contest but could not find the equalizer as Stony Brook claimed the 2-1 win.

NOTES
- It was the sixth meeting all-time between the Hawks and Seawolves and second of the season. Monmouth leads the all-time match-up by a 2-1-3 margin.
- Jakob Friedman's goal was his fourth of the season. The senior has scored in three straight contests for the Hawks. 
- Friedman now has 16 points this season on four goals and eight assists. Friedman's 16 points are the most by a Hawk since Ben Zakowski had 25 in 2023.
- Javi Losa's assist was his third of the season. Losa is tied with Patrick Osiecki for second on the team for assists this season. 
- Raul Garcia's assist was his first as a Hawk.
- Herman Johnsen now has seven or more saves in back-to-back contests.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Stony Brook outshot the Hawks, 17-7 in the contest. The Seawolves put ten shots on goal to Monmouth's two. 
- Stony Brook took nine of the match's 12 corner kicks. 
- Heidar Hermannsson made one save for Stony Brook. 
- Herman Johnsen finished with seven saves for the Hawks. The Monmouth defense was credited with a team save in the match as well.
