Monmouth Battles to Tie at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. – A hard-fought battle ended in a 0-0 tie between the Monmouth University women's soccer team and St. John's University on Sunday afternoon. 
 
After the first 10 minutes of the contest, saw the teams battle back-and-forth, the Hawks started to apply the pressure. Summer Reimet and Ashley Lavrich fired off shots that Kayla Bower had to save for St. John's. 
 
Reimet fired one off in the 31st minute that Bower made a diving save to get hands on.
 
The two sides went into the half tied at 0-0.
 
The Hawks held possession of the ball for a large chunk of time to start the second half but were unable to break through on the scoreboard. 
 
Cassie Coster made three saves in a three-minute span with just under 20 minutes to go and kept it a 0-0 contest. 
 
Loren Gehret had a pair of shots in the final 15 minutes of the match that were saved by Malene Nielsen as the contest ended in a 0-0 tie.

NOTES 
- Monmouth remained unbeaten in 2024 with the tie. It is the first time since the 1990 team (6-0-1) that a Hawks' squad is undefeated through the first seven matches of the season.  
- The Hawks moved to 7-5-2 all-time against St. John's. It was the first meeting between the two sides since the 2004 season. 
- The shutout was Cassie Coster's fourth of the season and 24th of the season. She has 24 career shutouts in 44 career contests for the Hawks.
- The Hawks have out shot five of seven opponents this season. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth held a 13-11 edge in shots in the match. The Hawks put seven shots on goal to the Red Storm's five.
- Monmouth held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks in the contest. 
Cassie Coster made five saves, including four in the second half, to secure the tie. 
- Two St. John's keepers combined for seven saves for the home team.

-Monmouth is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 15 when it travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 3 p.m. game.
