Balanced Attack Leads Monmouth Past Lehigh

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 5 (4-0-2)
Lehigh 1 (1-3-1)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four different players scored as the Monmouth University women's soccer team used a balanced attack to defeat Lehigh University 5-1 on the road on Thursday night. The Hawks are undefeated through six matches for the first time since 1995.

Monmouth got on the board in the 14th minute as Ashley Lavrich played one across the box that Summer Reimet was able to settle. Reimet knocked it into the bottom right-hand corner of the net for a 1-0 Monmouth advantage.

Ava Allen added to the Monmouth advantage a little less than two minutes later. Lehigh attempted to clear a ball out on a corner kick, and it landed right at Allen's feet and she fired it home for the 2-0 lead.

Monmouth made it a 3-0 game in the 32nd minute as Liza Suydam connected on her third goal of the season.

Lehigh got one back in the 36th minute on an Ava Schaller tally. Monmouth carried that 3-1 advantage into the halftime break.

Monmouth pushed its lead back to three in the 62nd minute as Lavrich made a long run up the far sideline and worked her way towards the middle of the box for the score. Her third goal of the season gave Monmouth a 4-1 lead.

The visitors capped the scoring in the 84th minute as Suydam lofted a high shot from near side of the field into the upper right-hand corner of the net. Her second of the day made the final score 5-1.

Glad they are finding success so early in the season but we need to humbly stay the course and keep working."
