RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Hawks to win over No. 12 Hofstra, Monmouth University men's soccer defender
Bastian Hatcher was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week.Â
Â
Hatcher was honored by the CAA for the first time in his career and becomes the second Hawk to be honored this season (
Jasen Bottini – Aug. 26).
Â
Hatcher started his week by keying a defensive unit that held LIU to just one goal and three shots on goal in a 1-1 road tie.Â
Â
On Saturday, Hatcher stepped up in a big way to help the Hawks secure their first win over a ranked team since 2011. He scored his first goal of the season in the first half to give Monmouth the early advantage. Hatcher also helped lead a defensive unit that held a potent Hofstra offense off the board until the final minute of the match.
Â
Hatcher has a goal and an assist this season while helping lead a Monmouth backline that has held six of eight opponents to one goal or less.
Â
Hatcher and the Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they travel to College of Charleston for a 1 p.m. match.Â
