Hatcher Named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

September 23, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Hawks to win over No. 12 Hofstra, Monmouth University men's soccer defender Bastian Hatcher was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week.

Hatcher was honored by the CAA for the first time in his career and becomes the second Hawk to be honored this season (Jasen Bottini – Aug. 26).

Hatcher started his week by keying a defensive unit that held LIU to just one goal and three shots on goal in a 1-1 road tie.

On Saturday, Hatcher stepped up in a big way to help the Hawks secure their first win over a ranked team since 2011. He scored his first goal of the season in the first half to give Monmouth the early advantage. Hatcher also helped lead a defensive unit that held a potent Hofstra offense off the board until the final minute of the match.

Hatcher has a goal and an assist this season while helping lead a Monmouth backline that has held six of eight opponents to one goal or less.

Hatcher and the Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they travel to College of Charleston for a 1 p.m. match.
