RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Monmouth University women's soccer team to a shutout in its season opener, graduate student defender
Lauren Bruno was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week by league officials.

Bruno, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, earned weekly honors from the CAA for the first time in her career.Â

Bruno led a defensive unit that opened the season with a 1-0 shutout at Temple. Bruno and the Hawks held Temple to just six shots in the game, including two in the second half. Monmouth limited Temple to just four shots on goal in the game.Â

Bruno also showed an ability to push up on the offensive end as she took three shots in the game.Â

Bruno and the Hawks are back in action on Thursday, Aug. 22 when they travel to the University of Albany for a 7 p.m. match.
