Hawks End Regular Season at Kehoe Twilight Meet

May 04, 2024

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Veronica Chainov set a school record with a 1.83m clearance in the women's high jump as the Monmouth University Track & Field Teams finished their regular season at the Kehoe Twilight Meet on Friday.

Chainov's jump is the new top mark in the CAA, as she also ranks sixth in the NCAA DI East Region and tied for 15th in the nation. The Israel native won the event and looks to win her second CAA gold medal of the 2023-24 season. She now leads the CAA's second-best jumper by .07m.

Chainov was not the only Hawk to have a big Friday at the meet hosted by the University of Maryland. Javelin thrower Taylor Boorse set a new PR and won the men's event with a throw of 68.67m. Boorse's throw is third in the conference, seventh all-time at Monmouth, and 23rd in the East Region.

Graduate senior Zay Battle won the men's shot put with a throw of 15.28m, while also placing second in the discus (46.92m) and third in the hammer. His hammer throw of 58.77m ranks second in the CAA and eighth all-time at MU.

On the track, David Strong (15.00, 100mH), Meredith Updike (14.92, 110mH), and Jordan Ricketts (53.49, 400mH) each won a hurdling event. Ricketts paced a trio of Hawks that finished 1-2-3 in the event, with Matthew Iuvara (54.95) placing second and Brad Cantoral (56.98) finishing in third. Yasmeen Tinsley and Brianna Rubio finished second and third, respectively, in the women's 400m. Both runners set new PRs with Tinlsey's time of 55.50 ranking seventh in program history and Rubio's time of 55.96 ranking 10th.

QUOTE
"This meet was a great tune-up for the team as we head into the CAA Championships. We had several outstanding performances, and we also know some areas we can improve upon. Veronica's jump of 1.83m the high jump was a highlight, along with Taylor's 68.67m throw in the javelin. I'm glad we had the opportunity to compete in this meet. We'll take this positive momentum with us as we travel to Elon next weekend." – Head Coach Mike Nelson
