WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – William & Mary jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off a late charge for a 9-5 win over the Monmouth University baseball team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday.Â

Home runs from Anthony Greco and Trey Christman helped William & Mary build a 4-0 lead after two innings of action.Â

The Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the second.
Chris Andrews reached on a base hit and came around to score on
Eric Sabato's base knock to right field.Â

Monmouth made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the fifth.
Brendan Buecker reached on a one-out walk and scored on
Austin Denlinger's sac fly to left field.Â

William & Mary scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and made it a 6-2 game.Â

Monmouth cut into the Tribe advantage in the bottom of the seventh.
James Harmstead reached via a two-out error and
Joey Ventresca scored on the play.
Phil Stahl followed with a single that allowed
Casey Caufield to cross the dish and made it a 6-4 game.Â

William & Mary scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to extend its lead to 9-4.Â

The Hawks had one last chance in the ninth as Harmstead's double scored Denlinger but the Tribe was able to get the final out to secure the 9-5 win.Â

- William & Mary won the season series, 2-1 and now leads the all-time series 5-2.Â

Phil Stahl's seventh inning single pushed his hit streak to four straight games and extended his on base streak to nine straight games.
