Monmouth Completes Sweep of Charleston on Senior Day

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University Softball Team completed a series sweep of the College of Charleston Cougars with a 4-3 win at MU Softball Park on Sunday afternoon.

Six Hawks – Dani Dabroski, Ana Rodriguez, Kait Mulcahey, Devin Coia, Kiley O'Rourke, and Abby Warner – were recognized during the pregame Senior Day ceremony as Monmouth went on to celebrate its 11th win at home this season.

Tessa Thompson drove in the game's first run and her sixth of the weekend in the first inning when she was hit by a pitch with two outs and the bases loaded. Charleston would answer back and take a lead in the fourth on two solo home runs, but Rodriguez and Dabroski both tripled home a run in the bottom half of the inning to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.

Bri Lawson hit an RBI groundout to score Mackenzie Bloss after she doubled and advanced on a wild pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth, but the Cougars would not go away quietly as Halle Cannon tripled home a run in the sixth.

Pitcher Billie Kerwood was able to strand Cannon on third and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to secure her 12th win in the circle this season. Kerwood finished off her CAA-leading 18th complete game with two earned runs given up accompanied by four strikeouts and zero walks.

QUOTE
"What a great way to send off our seniors! Nothing is better than a sweep. I thought we did a great job of being aggressive at the plate when runners were on to push runs across.

Billie threw another solid game, and I found it fitting that two seniors made big swings to turn the game in our favor. Overall, it was a good weekend for our group. I'm proud to have coached this group of seniors during their time at Monmouth. We're ready to go wrap up the season in Wilmington next week." – Head Coach Shannon Salsburg
