WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Wilmington Seahawks put a halt to the Monmouth University Softball Team's three-game win streak with a 6-0 victory on Thursday evening at Boseman Field.
Monmouth fell behind early as the Seahawks scored a trio of runs in the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors by the MU defense. The three-run inning for UNCW came after Monmouth left the bases loaded in the first inning, with the third out coming via a warning track flyout by right fielder
Tessa Thompson.
Monmouth managed just two hits over the next five innings, and the Seahawks extended their lead to six after another three-run frame in the fifth. Thompson singled to lead off the seventh, and
Devin Coia and
Dani Dabroski each collected their second base knock of the contest. The Hawks were retired before pushing a run across as they left the bases loaded for the second time in the game.
