Monmouth Relay Squads Shine at Penn Relays

April 28, 2024

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Monmouth University Track and Field Teams set a pair of school records at the historic Penn Relays this weekend at Franklin Field.

After Marisa Kilgarriff ran the third-fastest women's 10,000m time (35:37.68) to kick off the meet for the Hawks on Thursday, Monmouth followed with big performances throughout Friday. Kat Gilbert, Brianna Rubio, Yasmeen Tinsley, and Rachael Collins combined for a school record-setting time of 1:38.74 in the women's 4x200m relay. Brandon Muir, Alexander Kislenko, Jordan Ricketts, and Ian Moore continued the great running for MU in the sprint medley relay, where they set a new school record time of 3:22.24. The men's SMR squad placed fifth in the event, finishing just ahead of the squad from Clemson University.

On top of those strong relay performances, Stone Caraccio, Nico Grilli, Luke Riley, and Moore notched a new Top Ten time in program history as they ran a 7:33.55 in the men's 4x800m relay – a time that ranks sixth in school history.

The Hawks also competed at the Carol and John Covert Classic over the weekend. Vanessa Wood highlighted the meet hosted by Lehigh with wins in both the women's discus (38.02m) and hammer throw (52.43m). Wood also recorded the fourth-best mark in program history in the shot put with a second-place throw of 14.35m.

Two other Hawks, Veronica Chainov and Chris Bagnell, won field events in Bethlehem. Chainov's mark of 1.67m earned her yet another victory in the women's high jump, while Bagnell set a new season best with a 65.19m throw in the men's javelin. Bagnell now sits in fifth place in the CAA and 38th in the East Region entering the final stretch of the season.

Brianna Jucewicz was the only Monmouth athlete to collect a win on the track at Lehigh as she ran a 18:15.21 race in the women's 5,000m. Zay Battle rounded out a strong weekend for the Hawks with a second-place finish in the men's hammer. Battle's mark of 58.20m is second overall in the CAA and ninth all-time at MU.
