Monmouth Falls in Series Finale at Elon

ELON, N.C. – Phil Stahl matched his career-high with four base hits to lead the Monmouth University baseball team in a 9-7 loss to Elon University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday morning.
 
The Hawks staked themselves to an early 4-0 advantage in this one with two runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second. Chris Andrews had an RBI single in the first while Casey Caufield had a bases loaded walk in the second to highlight the action.
 
Elon used a pair of three-run home runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-4 advantage in the game. 
 
The Phoenix scored three times in the bottom of the fourth and extended its advantage to 9-4. 
 
The Hawks battled back and struck for three runs in the top of the fifth. Phil Stahl had an RBI single before Wyatt Hunt roped an RBI double. Hunt later scored on a fielders choice to make it a 9-7 game. 
 
That was as close as the Hawks could get as Elon claimed the 9-7 win.

NOTES
- Elon moves to 5-1 all-time against the Hawks.  
- Phil Stahl went 4-for-5 in the contest and matched his career-high for hits in a game.
- James Harmstead's walk in the fifth was his 17th of the season and 75th of his career. He is the 15th player in program history to reach 75 walks in a career.
- Chris Andrews had a pair of hits and extended his on base streak to 11 straight games. 
- Wyatt Hunt had his second multi-hit game of the weekend and fourth of his career.
- Harry Padden led the Hawks with two RBIs, his four game this season with multiple RBIs.
- Eric Sabato had his fifth game of the season with multiple runs scored.   

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth out hit Elon, 11-8 in the game. 
- Liam Dabagian earned the win for the Phoenix. He went two innings in relief and allowed just two hits. 
- Dante Ciaramella took the loss for the Hawks while making his first start of the season. He went 1.2 innings and allowed six runs on three hits.
