Savannah Simons hit her first career home run for the Monmouth University Softball Team in a 5-4 loss to Towson at MU Softball Park on Friday.
The Hawks struck in the first inning when
Tessa Thompson singled up the middle to drive in two, taking a 2-0 lead. The Tigers would cut the deficit in half in the second on a solo home run, and they took the lead on back-to-back run-scoring doubles with two outs in the third inning.
In the fourth, Simons blasted an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence to drive in
Dani Dabroski and give Monmouth a 4-3 advantage. The Hawaii native leads the Hawks in hits (41) and trails only Dabroski for the team lead in batting average at .308. She has driven in 16 runs on the season.
Towson would retake the lead in the top of the sixth when Ally Hickman tripled in a run with two outs and later scored on a wild pitch. Junior
Billie Kerwood struck out eight Tigers in the loss. She allowed eight hits, five runs, and two walks in her CAA-leading 16
th complete game.
