WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Senior
Ana Rodriguez tossed the first no-hitter of her career as the Monmouth University Softball Team defeated the Towson Tigers by a score of 4-0 to even the weekend series at a game apiece on Saturday afternoon at MU Softball Park.
Â
Rodriguez began the day with two of her four strikeouts from the game in the first inning. The Hawks brought the bats early today, as well, with the four through nine batters accounting for four hits and two runs in the second inning. Senior
Devin Coia (3-for-3) slapped an opposite field single to drive in
Bri Lawson and
Abby Warner to give MU a 2-0 lead.
After Rodriguez got a strikeout looking to end the third,
Tessa Thompson knocked in her third run of the weekend on a sharp single to center to score
Mackenzie Bloss. Rodriguez returned to the circle and faced only one more Towson hitter than the minimum the rest of the way thanks to a pair of 6-4-3 double plays turned by Bloss and Lawson up the middle.
Monmouth scored its fourth run of the game as
Dani Dabroski grounded out to score Rodriguez after her second base hit of the day at the plate. Rodriguez got the final out on a flyout to Dabroski in left, as she became the first Hawk to throw a no-hitter this season.

QUOTE
"What an amazing bounce-back win! Ana was outstanding for us today. She really hit all her spots and trusted the defense to make plays behind her.
I think Dani really set the tone for us by tracking down the deep fly ball to lead off the game. Our middle infielders were great, too, by turning multiple double plays in big spots. Ten hits. Great at-bats. We pushed runs by finding ways to continuously put pressure on them, and that's really what it's going to take every game.
I thought it was an all-around fantastic day for the team. I'd like to see that same enthusiasm and push tomorrow as we look to take the series." – Head Coach
Shannon Salsburg
